What's the plan? In March 2009, Covanta Energy put in planning permission to build a 390,000 tonne EfW (Energy from Waste) incinerator next to Junction 18 Midpoint in Middlewich. If the plans get the green light, this could mean that Middlewich will be home to not only a landfill site at Kinderton Lodge, but also an incinerator. The decision to approve or refuse the planning application will be made by Cheshire East Council's Strategic Planning Group.

Campaign update: on 26th April 2010, Covanta's plans were rejected by Cheshire East Council.
