The Middlewich Town Council Planning Committee voted against the Covanta proposal at its meeting on Tuesday 9th June. This sends a strong message to Cheshire East Council's Strategic Planning Group, which is ultimately responsible for approving or refusing the planning application. Covanta goes for Merseyside waste contract Covanta is on a shortlist of four companies competing to win the waste contract for Merseyside. The Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority (MWDA) will not disclose details of the bids but industry sources say Covanta is proposing to use Middlewich to burn the waste of 1.5 million Merseysiders.
